Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I need prior kayaking experience?
You do not need prior kayaking experience for our night tours. We only take double kayaks on these tours for safety. However, prior experience is helpful.
What do I bring?
Bring yourself! We will be kayaking at night so it is best to bring warm, non-cotton layers, and weather appropriate clothing. Everything else you will need including safety gear is provided.
When is the best time to book?
Bioluminescence is dependent on many factors, including light. Viewing is best on and around a new moon cycle! But we are able to see it all throughout our warmer season!
Can kids come?
Absolutely! We love having the spirit and energy of younger kids on tour. Children will be required to sit in the front of a double kayak with an adult.

New to Kayaking?
This tour is beginner friendly. We include a safety briefing and short lesson with every tour. We’ll show you how to use the kayak safety equipment, how to paddle and steer the kayak and how to set-up your kayak comfortably.
To keep everyone safe, and within guide-to-guest ratios, we only take double kayaks on this night tour. We have a 1:6 guide to participant ratio, and typically take groups of 12 with 2 guides.
What to Wear?
This is a night tour so dress according to the conditions the night of your tour. Light, non-cotton layers are ideal. You do not need waterproof clothing (unless it is raining). You can wear any footwear you like as your feet will not get wet on our launch ramp.
What Will You See?
You will be seeing bioluminescent algae known as "Dinoflagellates" which live in the water. When moved and disturbed, these marine algae sparkle and produce a beautiful glow. On tour, your guides will have plenty more information, facts, and stories to share with you.
Where We Go
This tour starts from our dock down on Portside Marina and travels through Brentwood Bay down towards a local Cove, and continues down the side of Tod Inlet.
What to Expect?
This is a unique and adventurous tour. We will be exploring the water, splashing, ducking under trees to get the best glow experience, and having lots of fun!

"In the quiet dark, we marveled at the bright eddies of blue light trailing after our paddles, especially under the trees. The guides took brilliant care of us, punctuating the night with local history and facts about the ecosystem. I honestly can't say enough about the staff and the new owners of Pacifica!"
