Power of Nature
There are many times in life where we have the opportunity to face a fear and we either choose to retreat or plunge forward. I know for myself I grow as a person when I face my fear and move through to the other side. All the things that I imagined would happen - didn’t and I survived!
This morning while on a kayak tour of Brentwood Bay and Tod Inlet I had the privilege of sharing the power of nature to a guest who was afraid of ‘letting go’ and relaxing in her kayak as a first time paddler. It was an experience that I know she won’t forget. With the sights and sounds of marine life in the bay she was able to paddle and feel what it is like to get close to seals, birds, oyster beds, sea stars, moon jellies and see an eagle land on the tallest tree in the forest.
Research has shown that many negatives in our life can be overcome when letting nature be our guide. Dr. Michael Hunter of the University of Sheffield confirmed that tranquil natural scenes, like a seascape, cause vital areas of the brain to work in sync. By contract, man-made environments like roads and buildings disrupt connections within the brain. (Hunter et al., 2010).
If you need to overcome a fear or just wish to be immersed in Mother Nature's beauty for a few hours, I invite you to join me and our partner, John Fraser, MA, RCC Nature Connection Mentor / Registered Clinical Counsellor, for the newly created Mystical Rainforest Kayak Tour. John has a special way of getting to heart of the matter while using nature as his guide. What better way to reconnect with yourself, another and the positive power of Nature!
